Your Pergola Build Process

STEP 1
SITE WALK & ONSITE CONSULTATION
We come to you — free of charge. Our team walks your property to assess the space, discuss placement, and take measurements. Together we'll work through every detail of your design — wood species, post and beam profiles, end cut styles, roofing and shade options, stain and finish colors, and add-ons like lighting, fans, or privacy walls. By the end of the visit, we'll have a clear picture of exactly what you want to build.

STEP 2
COMPREHENSIVE PROPOSAL
After the consultation, we put together a detailed, itemized proposal covering the full scope of work, material selections, project timeline, and total investment. Every line item is clearly spelled out so you know exactly what you're getting and what it costs. We'll walk you through the proposal, answer any questions, and make sure you're completely comfortable before anything is signed.

STEP 3
ENGINEERING AND PERMITTING
Most pergola projects in Florida require a building permit, and we handle the entire process on your behalf — from preparing and submitting the application to scheduling inspections and obtaining final approval. As a licensed Certified General Contractor (CGC1536781), we know Florida's building code and high-wind load requirements inside and out. You won't have to make a single call to the building department — we take care of it all.

STEP 4
CONSTRUCTION
Once permits are in hand, we schedule your build and get to work. Our crew arrives on time, respects your property, and maintains a clean, organized jobsite from start to finish. We build to the permitted plans using the premium materials selected during your consultation — no shortcuts, no substitutions. You'll receive regular progress updates and our team is always available if questions come up during the build.

STEP 5
ENJOY YOUR NEW PERGOLA
As we wrap up, we do a thorough final walkthrough to inspect every detail — from structural connections and post bases to end cuts and finish work. We want to make sure everything matches the design and exceeds your expectations before we call it done. Once you sign off, it's time to enjoy. Pull up a chair, fire up the grill, and make the most of your new outdoor living space.
PERGOLA DESIGN OPTIONS

PINE OR CEDAR PERGOLA?
Pine: Pressure-treated pine is a strong, budget-friendly option that holds up well against moisture and insects, though it requires 3–4 months of drying time after installation before it can be painted or sealed.
Cedar: Cedar is a premium natural wood with a refined grain and built-in resistance to rot and insects, and unlike pine, it can be painted or sealed right away — even before installation.

FREESTANDING VS ATTACHED PERGOLA
Freestanding: A freestanding pergola stands on its own four posts anywhere in your yard, giving you the flexibility to define a separate outdoor destination — whether that's over a pool deck, fire pit, or garden seating area.
Attached: An attached pergola is anchored directly to your home, creating a seamless extension of your living space that provides shade and shelter right off your back door, patio, or lanai.

PERGOLA SIZE
Our pergolas are available in a range of standard sizes, most of which come with pre-engineered drawings to streamline the permitting process and keep your project on schedule. For larger or custom structures, we work with a local engineering firm to produce the drawings needed to bring your vision to life.

DESIRED SHADE COVERAGE
The amount of shade your pergola provides comes down to the roof design. A classic open-rafter style offers partial shade and plenty of airflow — perfect for taking the edge off the Florida sun. A closely spaced slat roof blocks more direct sunlight while still maintaining an open, airy feel. For full protection from sun and rain, a metal roof panel provides complete coverage — ideal for homeowners who want to use their outdoor space year-round. We'll help you find the right balance for how you plan to use the space.

RAFTER/BEAM END PROFILE SELECTION
The end cut style on your rafters and beams is one of the details that gives a pergola its personality. From a simple square cut for a clean, modern look to decorative curved or angled profiles for a more traditional or craftsman feel, we work through the options with you during the consultation to make sure the finished product matches the style you're going for.

PAINT OR STAIN FINISH
The finish you choose plays a big role in the overall look of your pergola and how it holds up over time. A solid paint gives you a crisp, uniform appearance and pairs well with homes that have a clean, modern, or coastal aesthetic. A semi-transparent or solid stain lets more of the wood's natural character show through while still providing protection from the elements. We'll help you land on the right finish for your style, your home's exterior, and the wood species you've selected.

ADD THE ACCESSORIES
The right accessories take your pergola from a structure to a true outdoor living space. We offer cedar planter boxes, hammocks, pergola sun shades, and retractable canopies to customize your build to the way you want to use it. Looking to add lighting, fans, or other electronics? We work directly with licensed electricians and incorporate the electrical work into the permitting process, so everything is done right and up to code from the start.
